A serious day out where the structure holds the biggest bottom fish.
We run 70 to 100 miles to the outer continental shelf, working the live bottom, ledges, and hard structure that hold the heaviest grouper and snapper we target out of Murrells Inlet. This is bottom fishing at its best, on reefs and rock that sit too far out for a shorter day.
It is a full day in every sense of the phrase, and the size of the fish reflects every mile of the run.
You’ll leave the dock before first light, clear the inlet, and run 70 plus miles. Along the way the captain works the trolling spread for whatever are running, then settles on deep structure for serious bottom work before the run home.
This is not a casual day on the water. The run is real, the fish are big, and the action on the bottom can be relentless when the conditions line up. Come prepared, come rested, and come hungry to fish.
Trips run seasonally, weather and conditions permitting.
What to bring: A full day’s worth of food and non-glass drinks, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, soft-soled shoes, and seasickness medication taken well before departure. This is a 10 hour offshore day. Pack accordingly and plan to be comfortable from the start.
Gag, red, and scamp grouper are the headline bottom fish on this trip. They hold tight to structure and pull hard toward the rock the second they feel the hook, so heavy tackle and a quick reaction win the fight. The outer shelf structure holds a bigger average class than anything closer to the beach. Federal and state seasons and bag limits apply, and your captain stays current on all regulations.
Red snapper are hard-pulling and among the best eating fish in the ocean, and the outer shelf is where the larger class fish live. Vermilion snapper fill in the action between bites and are willing biters on deep structure. Federal seasons and bag limits apply.
King mackerel, cobia, and mahi roam the open water on the run out and back, and none of them turn down a well-presented bait. These are bonus targets layered on top of a full day of bottom fishing, and the mix changes with the season.
It is a full-day offshore bottom fishing trip that runs 70 to 100 miles to the outer continental shelf, targeting grouper, snapper, triggerfish, and seasonal pelagics on live bottom and hard structure. We supply all the gear and put you on the fish.
We run 70 to 100 miles offshore to reach the outer shelf structure. That far out, the bottom holds a larger class of grouper and snapper than the reefs and wrecks closer to the beach.
The trip is $2,600 for up to 6 anglers. That includes the captain and mate, all rods, reels, tackle, bait, fishing license coverage, and coolers and ice for your catch.
Beginners are welcome, but this is a serious offshore trip with a long run and full-day conditions. Arrive well rested, take seasickness medication before departure, and be ready for a physically demanding day. The mates coach anyone through the fishing. The ocean is the variable.
